What are these Halloween cake pops?
- Cake – You can use any type of cake you would like. Bake it up and allow the cake to cool.
- Frosting – Reach for vanilla frosting. You can use a store-bought frosting or make homemade frosting.
- Candy Melts, or White Chocolate – Yellow, orange, and white are what I used. It gives you that fun candy corn look as you dip different sections into different colors of chocolate. If you use white chocolate, you will use food coloring to color the chocolate.
Expert Tip: Now you can add food coloring to chocolate to alter the colors. Or you can use candy melts and do three different colors.
How To Make
The complete list of ingredients, quantities, and instructions can be found in the printable recipe card below.
- Add your cooked cake into a bowl, and crumble it. You want a finer crumble. (Photo 1)

- Scoop into small amounts and press into a triangle shape. And place on a baking sheet. (Photo 4)
- Freeze until they are hardened a bit.
- Now melt your candy melts and then place them in a line. (Photo 5)

Tips from our Recipe Developer
- You can use any flavor of the cake. Just bake the cake as directed in the recipe card. Then crumble into pieces.
- You will use the frosting to help form the cake into a nice moldable texture.
- Place the lollipop sticks on the larger portion of the candy corn triangle. That will be the bottom of the candy corn.
- Make sure to allow the chocolate to set up between dipping into each of the colors.
- If you want to place sprinkles on the cake, make sure to add them on when the chocolate is wet. The chocolate will set up quickly.
- These cake pops are so easy to make, and you can change the colors or design of the cake balls if you want.
- If your cake balls seem a bit dry add a bit more frosting and work the dough until you reach the desired texture.
Storing Tips
Refrigerator or Room Temperature
The cake balls on a stick can be stored in the fridge or at room temperature. Place in a sealed container and store for 3-5 days on the counter at room temperature. Or you can refrigerate for 5-7 days.
Freezing
You can also freeze any of the cake balls you do not eat right away. Place in a freezer-friendly container. Freeze for 4-5 months. Then thaw on the counter or in the fridge overnight.
What to Serve with The Candy Corn Cake Balls
Consider serving with warm hot chocolate (check out my Witch’s Brew hot chocolate bomb) or even a cup of coffee for a light snack. Or you can pair it with fruit or other bite-size desserts that are festive for the fall season.
Frequently Asked Questions
You do not have to have a cake pop maker. Simply use a cookie scoop to create evenly shaped cake pops. You will shape the balls with your hand. Then place it on a stick and dip it into the chocolate.
Adding a little frosting on the stick tip before you place it into the cake pop is going to help ensure the stick does not fall off the stick.
Cake pops can be made a day in advance of when you plan to serve them. Just make sure once they are dipped and ready store them in a sealed container.

Candy Corn Cake Pops
Equipment
- Medium mixing bowl
- Cake Pop Sticks (30)
Ingredients
- 1 9×13 vanilla sheet cake cooked as directed on the box
- ½ cup vanilla frosting
- 2 cups white chocolate or candy melts orange, yellow, and white
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, crumble the cake into small crumbs.1 9×13 vanilla sheet cake
- Add the icing to the cake crumbs and mix thoroughly until the mixture is slightly crumbly but sticks together when pressed.
- Take approximately 1 tablespoon of the cake mixture and shape it into small triangles, about 1 inch wide x 1.5 inches tall and 1 inch thick. Place the triangles on a baking sheet and freeze them for about 20 minutes.
- Meanwhile, melt a little over a third of the white chocolate in the microwave. Heat it in 20-second intervals at 50% power, stirring between each interval. This process takes approximately 4 minutes.
- Once melted, add yellow food coloring to the white chocolate and stir until well combined.2 cups white chocolate or candy melts
- Remove the cake triangles from the freezer. Dip a stick into the yellow chocolate and insert it into the base of each cake triangle. Fully dip each cake pop into the yellow chocolate, ensuring it is completely coated. Place the coated cake pops on a piece of parchment paper and let them harden for about 10 minutes.
- Take another third of the white chocolate and melt it as before. Add orange food coloring to the melted chocolate and mix until evenly colored.
- Dip the already coated cake pops into the orange chocolate, coating only 2/3 of each cake pop. Return them to the parchment paper and allow them to harden.
- Finally, melt the remaining white chocolate wafers as before, but this time add white food coloring to the mixture.
- Dip the top third of each cake pop into the white chocolate.
- Let the cake pops harden for an additional 10 minutes before enjoying.
Notes
- Chocolate – I prefer to use candy melts as they are already colored. Be careful if you use food coloring to color white chocolate, as it can cause it to seize up.
- Setting Up – Make sure to allow the cake pops to set up in between dipping in the chocolate so you get that separate layers.
- Flavor – You can use any flavor of cake you would like.
- Shaping – You want to use a rounded triangle shape with the cake batter. They don’t have to be perfect but just shape as you would like.
- Decorating – You are more than welcome to decorate with sprinkles and more. Just add while the chocolate is still wet.
