This quick and easy homemade limeade captures that authentic fair-style flavor with fresh lime juice, sugar, and actual lime pieces for the perfect single-serving summer refreshment.
Start by cutting both limes in half and using a lime juicer to extract all the juice into your container. Don't discard those lime halves - drop them right into the bottom of your container as they're essential for that authentic fair-style flavor.
Add the sugar along with just ½ cup of water and a few ice cubes if you're using them. Secure the lid tightly and shake vigorously until the sugar completely dissolves and everything is well mixed.
Pour in the remaining water and gently stir to combine. Top with more ice if desired. If you prefer to drink through a straw, use a hole punch to create an opening in the lid.
Notes
Remove lime pieces if not drinking immediately - The lime rinds will make your drink bitter if left in too long, so fish them out if you're not planning to drink it right away.
Shake don't just stir - Shaking helps dissolve the sugar more effectively and combines all the flavors better than stirring alone.
Choose the right container - A clear container with a tight-fitting lid works best for shaking and showcasing those lime pieces inside.
Adjust sweetness gradually - Start with the recommended amount of sugar and add more to taste rather than starting with too much.
