This easy Strawberry Dump Cake recipe combines sweet strawberry pie filling, yellow cake mix, and butter for a warm, bubbly dessert with a golden topping. With no mixing and only 10 minutes of prep, it’s an easy dessert for potlucks, parties, and family dinners.
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a 9 x 13-inch baking dish.
Spread the strawberry pie filling evenly across the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
If using frozen strawberries, scatter them evenly over the strawberry pie filling. There is no need to thaw them first.
Sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix evenly over the strawberry layer. Make sure the fruit is completely covered. Do not stir or mix the layers together.
Arrange the thin slices of butter evenly over the dry cake mix, covering as much of the surface as possible. This helps the cake mix become golden and crisp as it bakes.
Bake for 50 to 55 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the strawberry filling is hot and bubbling around the edges.
Remove the dump cake from the oven and let it cool for at least 10 minutes before serving. This gives the strawberry filling time to thicken slightly.
Serve warm on its own or with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, if desired.
Notes
Break up the cake mix lumps: Boxed mix can form hard clumps that never hydrate, so crumble it between your fingers first.
Glass pans need a few extra minutes: Glass heats slower than metal, so add 5 minutes and look for bubbling at the edges.
Tent with foil if the top browns early: Loosely lay foil over the pan around minute 40 so the center finishes without burning.
Halve it in an 8x8 dish: Use half of every ingredient and start checking for golden edges at 35 minutes.
