Notes
Use Malibu coconut rum for the best flavor. It's the easiest to find and gives these bahama mama jello shots that signature tropical sweetness. White rum works in a pinch, but Malibu really makes a difference.
Swap the mixer for juice. Instead of plain water, try using pineapple juice for the cold water portion. It adds another layer of tropical flavor without changing the set.
Make them the night before. These shots need at least 2-4 hours to firm up, but overnight is the sweet spot. They'll be perfectly set and ready to pull straight from the fridge.
Use a measuring cup with a pour spout. Once the liquid is mixed, a measuring cup makes it much easier to fill the condiment cups without spilling.
Don't overfill the cups. Fill each cup about three-quarters of the way. This makes them easier to pop out and eat cleanly.
Set them on a flat baking sheet in the fridge. This keeps them level while they set and makes transporting a big batch much easier.
