Storing Cupcakes

You can store these homemade unicorn cupcakes in an airtight container on the counter, or in the fridge. If your home is a tad on the warmer side the fridge is best to prevent the frosting from breaking down.

You can also freeze cupcakes for 3-4 months. Just make sure to place in a freezer friendly container and then freeze. I always try to make sure to place in a larger container to prevent smashing the frosting.

Tips For Making Cupcakes

  • Make sure to allow the cupcakes to fully cool before you frost or it will melt the frosting.
  • When rolling cupcakes in the frosting, leave the top free of sprinkles for a clean unicorn topper.
  • Any colors of sprinkles work for this cupcake recipe.
  • Feel free to make a homemade cake mix instead of boxed cake mix if you would like.

Common Questions

When to know that the cupcakes are fully done?

The cupcakes are done when you can stick a toothpick in the center and it comes out clean of wet batter. Make sure to not overcook the cupcakes or it will create a dry cupcake.

Can I make cupcakes the day before I want to serve them up?

Feel free to make the cupcakes one day before you plan to serve them. Just make sure they are in a stored container or they will dry out and won’t taste as fresh.

Can I use a different cupcake topper?

Yes, if you can’t find or don’t want the same cupcake topper as I used, feel free to buy any style. There are tons of unicorn toppers that you can pick and choose from to find the right look for you.
