  • Versatile: Easy to make non-alcoholic by skipping the rum – perfect for all ages.
  • Fresh Flavors: The combination of strawberry and pineapple creates a perfectly balanced sweetness.

Recipe Ingredients

See the recipe card below for a complete list of ingredients and measurements.

Ingredients for a cocktail: fresh/frozen strawberries, coconut cream, pineapple juice.

Ingredient Notes:

  • Frozen Strawberries – These replace some of the ice, creating a thicker drink without diluting the flavors. They also add natural sweetness and a beautiful color.
  • Pineapple Juice – Provides that classic tropical taste. Fresh or canned both work well.
  • Cream of Coconut – This sweetened coconut product is essential for the right taste and texture. Don’t substitute with coconut milk or coconut cream.
  • White Rum – Creates the cocktail’s base. You can use coconut rum or Malibu rum for extra tropical flavor.
  • Ice – Helps achieve the perfect frozen consistency.

Substitutions and Additions

  • Rum Options – Swap white rum for coconut rum to boost the tropical flavor.
  • Fruit Variations – Try adding frozen pineapple pieces for extra tropical taste.
  • Non-Alcoholic Version – Skip the rum and add extra pineapple juice for a family-friendly version.
  • Fresh Fruit Tips – While frozen strawberries work best, you can use fresh strawberries with extra ice.

Recipe Tips

  • Use frozen strawberries for the best texture without diluting the drink.
  • A powerful blender makes all the difference in achieving a smooth consistency.
  • Don’t substitute cream of coconut with coconut milk or coconut cream – they’re different products.
  • For best results, chill your glasses before serving.

Storing Tips

  • Fresh is Best: These cocktails are best enjoyed immediately after blending.
  • Make Ahead: You can pre-measure ingredients (except ice) and store them separately.
  • Freezing: Don’t freeze the blended cocktail as it will lose its smooth texture.
  • Prep Tips: Keep frozen strawberries ready in your freezer for quick blending.

Recipe FAQs

Can I make this without alcohol?

Yes! Simply omit the rum and add more pineapple juice for a virgin strawberry colada.

Why can’t I substitute coconut milk for cream of coconut?

Cream of coconut is sweetened and has a specific consistency that gives the drink its signature texture. Coconut milk or cream won’t provide the same result.

Can I use fresh strawberries instead of frozen?

Yes, but you’ll need to add more ice to achieve the right consistency, which might dilute the flavors.

How can I make this for a crowd?

This recipe easily doubles or triples – just maintain the same ratios and blend in batches.
