Peanut butter banana dog treats are homemade bone-shaped biscuits with banana, strawberries, oats and peanut butter. They bake up firm and golden, with little berry pieces through the dough and a simple biscuit texture dogs enjoy crunching through.

Why You’ll Love It

  • Simple ingredients: Flour, oats, egg, peanut butter, banana and strawberries make these treats easy to mix in one bowl and you probably already have most of these ingredients on hand already.
  • Good dough texture: After chilling, you should find the dough easy to work with. You can roll it out and cut into clean shapes.
  • Fruit benefits: Banana adds moisture and sweetness while finely diced strawberries add little soft fruit pieces. Both add nutrients to the treats.
  • Flexible shape: You can use a bone-shaped cutter for larger biscuits or a small scoop for smaller treats, depending on the size of your dog and what size and shape treats you want.

Substitutions and Variations

Smaller treat size: Use a small scoop if you want bite-size banana peanut butter dog treats.
Crunchier biscuits: Roll the dough a little thinner than ½ inch.
Softer biscuits: Keep the dough at ½ inch thick and don’t overbake.
Different cutter shape: Use any small cookie cutter if you don’t have a dog bone cutter. I love this 3-piece dog bone cookie cutter set!

Kim’s Top Tips

  • Use xylitol-free peanut butter: This is VERY important. Check the label before baking because even a small amount of xylitol is unsafe for dogs. Xylitol is a sugar substitute that’s safe for humans but toxic to dogs.
  • Dice strawberries small: Large pieces release more moisture and make the dough harder to cut.
  • Chill sticky dough: If your kitchen gets hot like mine, you’ll find a short chill helps the dough firm up before rolling.

How to Store

  • Refrigerator: Store cooled treats in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 10 days.
  • Room temperature: Store only very dry, crisp treats at room temperature for 2 to 3 days. Quite moist ones will go bad quicker.
  • Freezer: Freeze in a sealed container or freezer bag for up to 3 months.
  • Thawing: Thaw frozen treats at room temperature before serving, or offer small frozen pieces if your dog likes them.

Banana Dog Treats with Strawberries FAQs

How many dog treats does the recipe make?

If you use a 3-inch cookie cutter, you should get 18 cookies. Using a smaller one, you’ll get nearer to 30.

Can I make the dough ahead?

Yes. Cover it with plastic wrap and refrigerate it for up to 24 hours, then simply roll, cut and bake.

Can I use natural peanut butter?

I used Skippy creamy peanut butter. I don’t recommend using natural peanut butter, as it gets grainy when baked.

How do I know when they’re done?

They should take 25 to 30 minutes at 300°F. They’re done when they’re lightly golden on the bottom and firm to the touch. If you’re using a smaller cookie scoop (2 teaspoons), the smaller treats will need closer to 23 to 25 minutes.

Do I have to space them out on the baking sheet?

No, just don’t let them touch each other. These peanut butter banana dog treats don’t expand like real cookies.
