These Sweet and Spicy Bang Bang Meatballs, or firecracker meatballs, are made with pre-cooked frozen meatballs and Thai sweet chili sauce. They’re excellent on a platter as an appetizer for game day or holiday parties. The recipe is extremely versatile: try your favorite flavor or meat blend of frozen meatball instead of traditional beef, serve with toothpicks on a platter for easy access. Or you can even add in some veggies like shredded carrot, zucchini, or broccoli slaw, and serve them in a ramekin with chopsticks so they can be eaten without “utensils” – get creative!

Firecracker Meatballs FAQs
Absolutely! You can mix the sauce and the meatballs up to a day in advance and then just heat them together before serving. Or you can make the whole recipe, store them in an airtight container and freeze for up to three months. When you’re ready to serve, just thaw overnight in your refrigerator (or warm on low heat if cooking from frozen).
If kept refrigerated, these Bang Bang Meatballs will last about three days. If frozen, they will keep for up to three months.
If you can’t find any Thai sweet chili sauce, you can mix sriracha and honey to get the same flavor profile.
For a fun presentation, place your meatballs in mini crescent roll dough or on top dried chilis. You can also serve over rice for a complete meal! Serve them garnished with green onions and red pepper flakes to add some color and a little spice!
You sure can! If you prefer to use your crockpot to make this meatball appetizer, you are more than welcome to. You may want to add 1/4 cup of water to the bottom of the slow cooker to keep the sauce from burning.
Of course! Serving them on a platter with toothpicks is the most common way to make these firecracker meatballs. You can also place your sauce in an easy ramekin or small bowl for dipping if you prefer not to toss the meatballs in it.
