Ingredients for a dessert with Fireball whiskey and various toppings.

Ingredient Notes:

  • Cherry Jello: This is the base of the recipe, giving it a sweet, fruity flavor and a vibrant color.
  • Cool Whip: Whipped topping adds a creaminess and slightly fluffy consistency to the salad.
  • Maraschino Cherries: These sweet cherries add a pop of color and a burst of sweet cherry flavor.
  • Mini Marshmallows: Add a sweet and chewy texture to the salad that helps to balance out the creaminess.
  • Sour Cream: This balances out the sweetness of the other ingredients and adds a tangy flavor.
  • Chopped Pecans: Pecans add a nice crunch and nutty flavor to the salad.
  • Fireball Whiskey: This ingredient adds a unique twist and gives the salad a subtle hint of cinnamon and spice.
  • Ground Cinnamon: A dash of ground cinnamon enhances the overall warm and cozy flavors in this recipe.
  • Red Hots: These small, spicy candies add heat and sweetness to the salad. Plus, they look amazing.

Substitutions and Additions

  • More Fruit: Try adding some drained crushed pineapple for a tropical twist. However, it’s important that you drain it well so that it doesn’t water down the salad.
  • Cottage Cheese: Swap out one cup of sour cream for cottage cheese if you want some extra protein.
  • Alcohol-Free Version: If you’d prefer a non-alcoholic version, you can simply omit the Fireball whiskey. The salad will still be delicious with the warm flavors of cinnamon.
  • Different Nuts: If pecans aren’t your favorite, you can substitute them with chopped walnuts or even slivered almonds for a similar crunch and nutty taste.
  • Vanilla Extract: Adding a splash of vanilla extract can increase the flavor. Just make sure that you add it to the powder and Cool Whip before you add the remaining ingredients.

Recipe Tips

  • This fluff recipe must be kept cold, so keep it in the fridge until you are ready to serve it.
  • Measure the fireball carefully. Otherwise, the salad will be too thin.
  • You can eat this salad right away, but it really tastes better if you let it chill for a while first.
  • I used Ateco tip #824 to pipe the whipped on top of the salad for a beautiful look. However, this is optional, you can use a spoon as well.
  • You do not need to prepare the jello before using it. Because, you are simply using the jello powder to add flavor to the whipped topping.

Storing Tips

  • Refrigerator:  Store the leftover salad in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Freezer: You can also freeze this cherry fluff salad. Just store it in an airtight container for up to 2 months. Allow it to thaw overnight in the fridge before serving.
