Halloween pretzel treats are a sweet, salty, no-bake snack made with just three ingredients. The candy corn presses into soft, melted chocolate for that classic Halloween look. I make these every year, and they are always the first thing off the dessert table.

Best Halloween Pretzel Treats Recipe You’ll Ever Make

Most Halloween pretzel treat recipes use only one type of chocolate. I use both Rolos and Hershey’s Hugs, so every tray has caramel AND creamy white chocolate. That mix makes these a real step above the average version.

The Rolos need to soften slightly longer than the Hugs. I always top the Rolos with candy corn first, then move to the Hugs so nothing overmelts. That one small step keeps every bite looking clean and set.

Fun Facts About Halloween Pretzel Treats

Candy corn Halloween pretzel treats started showing up on holiday dessert tables in the early 2000s. The salty pretzel and sweet chocolate-caramel combo has stayed popular because it needs no special equipment. It’s one of those treats that looks more impressive than the effort it takes.

Candy Corn Pretzel Bites Ingredients

See the recipe card below for the full list of ingredients and exact measurements.

Four bags: pretzels, Rolo chocolates, Hersheys Hugs, and candy corn.
  • Snap pretzels – These give each bite its salty crunch and serve as the base.
  • Rolo chocolates – The caramel-filled chocolate melts into a soft, gooey center.
  • Hershey’s Hugs – These white and milk chocolate kisses melt quickly and add creamy sweetness.
  • Candy corn – Pressed into warm chocolate, it sets in place and gives each treat its Halloween look.

Substitutions and Variations

  • Pretzel shape – Mini twists or round pretzels both work. Use whatever you can find.
  • Rolos – Dark chocolate Rolos are a great swap if you prefer less sweetness.
  • Hershey’s Hugs – Any Hershey’s Kiss flavor works here. Try cookies and cream or almond.
  • Candy corn – Swap for Reese’s Pieces to add a peanut butter flavor that fits the fall theme.
  • Chocolate type – Use milk chocolate chips in a pinch if you can’t find Hugs or Rolos.

How to Make Halloween Pretzel Treats (Step-by-Step)

STEP 1: Preheat your oven to 250°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

STEP 2: Spread 24 snap pretzels in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.

STEP 3: Top each pretzel with either a Rolo or a Hershey’s Hug. I like alternating so each tray has a mix of both chocolates.

STEP 4: Bake for 3 minutes, just long enough to soften the chocolate. Watch closely so nothing overmelts.

STEP 5: Remove the pan from the oven. Then quickly press one candy corn halfway into each softened chocolate. Start with the Rolos first since the Hugs melt faster.

STEP 6: Let the treats sit at room temperature for 30 minutes so the chocolate sets. Refrigerate for 15 minutes if you want them ready faster.

Tips for Making Halloween Pretzel Bites

  • Unwrap everything before you start. Set out all your Rolos and Hugs before the pan goes in. You’ll be glad you did when the timer goes off.
  • Don’t overbake. Bake for three minutes at 250°F to soften the chocolate without making it too runny. Check it early.
  • Top the Rolos first. The Hugs melt faster, so add the candy corn to those last. It keeps the chocolate from losing its shape.
  • Use a light touch. Press the candy corn only halfway in and let the chocolate’s weight do the rest. Pushing too hard flattens the melt.
  • Speed up the set. Pop the tray in the fridge for 15 minutes instead of waiting the full 30. Cold air firms the chocolate quickly.

Common Mistakes to Avoid When Making Halloween Pretzel Treats

  • Baking too long. Overmelted chocolate spreads, and the candy corn sinks instead of sitting on top. Pull the pan at 3 minutes.
  • Adding candy corn too late. Once the chocolate cools, it won’t grip the candy corn. Work quickly right after the pan comes out.
  • Pressing candy corn all the way down. It breaks the chocolate and the treat looks messy. Stop when the tip is just barely submerged.
  • Skipping the parchment paper. The melted chocolate sticks to the pan and the pretzels tear when you lift them. Line the sheet every time.
  • Moving treats before they set. Lifting them too soon leads to smeared bottoms and crooked candy corn. Wait 30 minutes, or refrigerate.

How to Store

  • Storage: Keep finished treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  • Freezing: Freeze in a single layer on a baking sheet, then transfer to a freezer bag for up to 2 months.
  • Reheating: Best served at room temperature. Let frozen treats thaw on the counter for 15 minutes.

Press the candy corn in while the chocolate is still soft and warm from the oven. Let the treats set for a full 30 minutes before moving them.

Can I make these ahead of time?

Yes. Make them up to 3 days before your party and store them in an airtight container at room temperature.

What if I can’t find Hershey’s Hugs?

Candy Corn Halloween Pretzel Treats

Author: Kim Schob
Course: Desserts, Snacks
Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 3 minutes
Total Time: 13 minutes
These Candy Corn Halloween Pretzel Treats combine crunchy pretzels with softened Rolos and Hershey’s Hugs topped with festive candy corn. They’re a quick and easy sweet-and-salty Halloween treat that takes just minutes to prepare.

Ingredients

  • 24 square snap pretzels
  • 12 Rolo chocolate caramel candies unwrapped
  • 12 Hershey’s Hugs chocolates unwrapped
  • 24 pieces candy corn

Instructions

  • Arrange the pretzels in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Place one Rolo chocolate on 12 of the pretzels.
  • Place one Hershey’s Hug on each of the remaining 12 pretzels.
  • Bake for about 3 minutes, or just until the chocolates have softened. Do not allow the chocolates to completely melt.
  • Remove the baking sheet from the oven.
  • Immediately place one piece of candy corn in the center of each softened Rolo. Gently press the candy corn about halfway into the chocolate.
  • Add one piece of candy corn to each softened Hershey’s Hug. Press very gently since the Hugs may be softer than the Rolos.
  • Allow the Candy Corn Halloween Pretzel Treats to sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes, or until the chocolate and caramel have completely set.
  • For faster setting, refrigerate the pretzel treats for approximately 15 minutes.
  • Once set, transfer to a serving platter or store in an airtight container until ready to serve.

Notes

  • Top the Rolos first. Add candy corn to all the Rolos before moving to the Hugs — the weight of the candy corn will push it down on its own.
  • Don’t over-press. The chocolates don’t need much pressure, or they’ll flatten out and lose their shape.
  • Use any pretzel shape you have. Round pretzels and mini twists work just as well as snaps.
  • Try Reese’s Pieces instead of candy corn. It gives you a peanut butter-chocolate combo with the same fall look.
  • Speed up the set. Pop the pan in the fridge for 15 minutes if you want them firm faster.
