Substitutions and Additions
- Rolos: I used the dark chocolate Rolos; if you are a fan of milk chocolate, you can use those as well.
- Candies: Instead of using M&M’s, you can also use Redhots or any other small red candies to make the noses.
- Pretzels: Instead of mini pretzel twists, you can also use the square pretzel snaps to base the reindeer.
How to Make These Reindeer Rolo Pretzels (step-by-step directions)
Step 1: Cut the pretzels in half lengthwise to make the antlers.
Step 2: Place whole pretzels on the prepared baking sheet.
Step 3: Top the pretzels with a Rolo candy.
Step 4: Bake in the oven for 2-3 minutes or until the candy is soft but not melted.
Step 5: Add the antlers to the top of the candy, pressing down lightly so they stick.
Step 6: Add the candy eyes and noses to finish the reindeer. Then, let me sit for 20 minutes to set up.
Recipe Tips
- Make Extra: This recipe is easy to half, double, or even triple, depending on how many you need or want.
- Choose The Right Pretzels: These pretzels come in different sizes. So, make sure that you pick the mini twists or tiny twists. If they are too large, the role will fall through.
- Be Careful Not To Burn: Watch the pretzels closely while they are in the oven. You need the Rolo to be soft enough to press down but not melted.
- Match Up The Pretzels: If you are not able to get even halves, you can match the pieces up into sets of similar sizes. It doesn’t have to be exact.
- Help The Candy Stick: Gently press down the M&M’s and candy eyeballs so that they will stick to the chocolate.
Storing Tips
- Storage: These pretzels store well in an airtight container for up to two weeks. If you are stacking them, I recommend placing a piece of parchment paper between the layers to prevent them from sticking together.
- Refrigerator: For longer storage, they can also be stored in the fridge for about 3 weeks. However, keep in mind that the pretzels may become soggy in the fridge
