What Are Eggnog Pudding Shots?

Eggnog Pudding Shots are a creamy, dessert-style cocktail that combines the rich flavors of holiday eggnog with vanilla pudding and spiced rum. Topped with whipped cream and a sprinkle of nutmeg, these boozy treats capture all the festive flavors of the season in a fun, party-ready format. They’re like having your holiday eggnog and dessert all in one delicious bite!

Recipe Ingredients

Pudding ingredients with spiced rum, milk, eggnog, and spices on a red cloth.

Ingredient Notes:

  • Instant vanilla pudding – Creates a creamy base. Two 3.4-ounce boxes give the perfect texture.
  • Spiced rum – Adds warmth and holiday spirit. Captain Morgan works great for these shots.
  • Eggnog – Use high-quality, full-fat eggnog for the richest flavor.
  • Whole milk – Helps achieve the perfect consistency. Don’t substitute lower-fat options.
  • Ground nutmeg – Adds classic eggnog spice. Freshly grated nutmeg works best if available.
  • Cool Whip – Creates a creamy mixture and makes the perfect topping.
  • Star anise – Optional garnish that adds a festive touch.

See the recipe card below for a complete list of ingredients and measurements.

Substitutions and Additions

  • Pudding variations – Try cheesecake or French vanilla pudding for different flavors
  • Alcohol options – Bourbon or vanilla vodka can replace the spiced rum
  • Garnish choices – Cinnamon sticks or candied cranberries for festive flair
  • Whipped topping – Homemade whipped cream can replace Cool Whip
  • Spice options – Add a pinch of cinnamon or ginger for extra warmth

Recipe FAQs

Can I make Eggnog Pudding Shots without alcohol?

Yes! Replace the rum with additional eggnog for a non-alcoholic version that’s just as creamy and delicious.

Why aren’t my pudding shots thickening?

Make sure you’re using a hand mixer or stand mixer, not mixing by hand. Also, check that you’re using instant pudding mix, not cook-and-serve.

Can I use homemade eggnog?

Absolutely! Just make sure it’s thick and creamy, similar to store-bought versions.

Can I make these in regular shot glasses instead of plastic cups?

Yes! Glass shot glasses work great for a more upscale presentation, especially for smaller gatherings.
