What is a Virgin Strawberry Daiquiri?

A virgin strawberry daiquiri is the non-alcoholic version of the classic strawberry daiquiri cocktail, made without rum or any alcoholic spirit. This mocktail captures all the tropical, fruity flavors of the traditional drink by blending fresh strawberries, lime juice, and sweetener with ice.

The result is a refreshing drink that’s perfect for the whole family, including kids, pregnant women, or anyone who chooses not to consume alcohol. Virgin daiquiris are among the best mocktails because they maintain the authentic taste and presentation of the original recipe while being completely alcohol-free.

Virgin Strawberry Daiquiri Ingredients

See the recipe card below for a complete list of ingredients and measurements.

Bowl of sliced strawberries, ice cubes, water, sugar, and mint on a white surface.
  • Fresh Strawberries – The star of this recipe! Use ripe, sweet strawberries for the best flavor, though frozen strawberries work in a pinch. Fresh fruit always delivers superior taste compared to artificial strawberry syrup.
  • Ice Cubes – Essential for creating that perfect slushy texture that makes this drink so refreshing on a hot summer day. A good blender will crush the ice smoothly for the best consistency.
  • Fresh Lime Juice – Fresh squeezed lime juice provides the perfect tartness to balance the sweet strawberries. Bottled lime juice can work, but fresh is always best for authentic flavor.
  • Simple Syrup – A combination of equal parts sugar and water creates the perfect sweetener that blends smoothly. You can substitute with maple syrup or monk fruit sweetener for different flavor profiles.
  • Water – Just a little liquid helps the blender process everything smoothly without making the drink too watery. Some recipes use lemon lime soda for extra fizz.
  • Lime Slices – Perfect for garnish and adding that classic daiquiri presentation. The visual appeal makes this feel like a special treat rather than just another drink.

Substitutions and Additions

  • Sweetener Swaps – Replace simple syrup with maple syrup, agave nectar, or monk fruit sweetener depending on your dietary preferences and desired sweetness level.
  • Strawberry Options – While fresh strawberries are ideal, frozen strawberries work well and actually help create a thicker texture without needing as much ice.
  • Citrus Variations – Try adding a few drops of bitters or mixing in some lemon juice alongside the lime for a more complex flavor profile.
  • Rum Extract – For adults who want a hint of that classic daiquiri flavor without alcohol, add a few drops of rum extract or rum flavorings.
  • Fizzy Twist – Top with tonic water or lemon lime soda for a sparkling version that’s perfect for special occasions.

How to Make Virgin Strawberry Daiquiri (step-by-step directions)

Strawberries, water, and sugar added to a blender in four steps.

STEP 1. Start by washing and hulling your fresh strawberries, removing any stems or leaves. If using frozen strawberries, let them thaw slightly for easier blending, or reduce the ice accordingly. Add the strawberries, ice cubes, fresh lime juice, simple syrup, and a little water to your blender. The only tool you really need is a good blender that can handle ice effectively. STEP 2. Blend on high speed for 60-90 seconds until the mixture is smooth and slushy. You may need to stop and scrape down the sides or use a tamper to help everything blend evenly. (Photo 5)

STEP 3. Taste and adjust sweetness by adding more simple syrup if needed, or add more lime juice if you prefer it more tart. Remember that a little bit goes a long way with the lime juice.

STEP 4. Pour the mixture into daiquiri glasses or your favorite drinking glasses. The consistency should be thick and slushy, perfect for sipping through a straw. Garnish with lime slices, whole strawberries, or even chocolate-covered strawberries. (Photo 6)

Recipe Tips

  • Perfect Texture – The key to a great virgin daiquiri is achieving the right slushy consistency. If it’s too thick, add a little liquid; if too thin, add more ice or frozen fruit.
  • Sweetness Balance – Start with less sweetener and add more to taste. The natural sweetness of strawberries varies by season, so adjust accordingly for the perfect flavor balance.
  • Serving Immediately – This drink is best enjoyed right away while it maintains that perfect slushy texture. It doesn’t store well and will separate if left sitting.
  • Blender Power – A high-powered blender makes all the difference in achieving that smooth, restaurant-quality texture that makes this feel like a special treat.
  • Fresh vs. Frozen – While fresh strawberries provide the best flavor, frozen strawberries can actually help achieve a thicker consistency and work great when fresh aren’t in season.

Storing Tips

  • Storage: This virgin strawberry daiquiri is best enjoyed immediately after blending for optimal texture and flavor, as it will separate and lose its slushy consistency when stored.
  • Refrigerator: If you must store leftovers, keep them in the refrigerator for no more than 24 hours in a covered container. Re-blend briefly before serving to restore texture.
  • Freezing: You can freeze the mixture in a freezer-safe container for up to 1 month, but it will freeze solid and need to be thawed and re-blended before serving.

Recipe FAQs

Can I make this virgin strawberry daiquiri with frozen strawberries?

Absolutely! Frozen strawberries work great and actually help create a thicker, more slushy texture. Just reduce the ice slightly since the frozen fruit will help chill and thicken the drink.

How can I make this healthier or lower in sugar?

Try using monk fruit sweetener instead of simple syrup, or reduce the added sugar and let the natural sweetness of ripe strawberries shine through. You can also add more fresh fruit to increase the nutritional value.

What’s the best way to get the smoothest texture?

Use a high-powered blender and don’t be afraid to blend for a full minute or more. If your blender struggles, add a little liquid to help it process, but add slowly to avoid making it too thin.

How do I prevent it from being too watery?

Use less water initially and add only as needed to help blending. Frozen strawberries help maintain thickness, and you can always add more ice if the consistency is too thin for your liking.
