What’s in This Apple Caramel Fudge Recipe?

Ingredients for caramel apple fudge sitting on a marbled countertop.
  • Salted Caramel Candy Melts: These provide a rich, buttery caramel flavor and smooth texture. The salt adds a delightful contrast to the sweetness.
  • Vibrant Green Candy Melts: These give the fudge its festive green color and contribute to the creamy texture.
  • Sweetened Condensed Milk: This is key to achieving that classic fudge consistency and adds extra sweetness and creaminess.
  • Green Apple Candy Flavoring: This concentrated flavoring gives a punch of tart apple taste, perfectly complementing the caramel.

Substitutions and Additions

  • Regular Caramel Melts: If you prefer a less salty taste, use regular caramel melts instead of salted ones.
  • White Chocolate Chips: For a different flavor profile, substitute white chocolate chips for the green candy melts.
  • Chopped Nuts: Add some crunch by mixing chopped walnuts or pecans into the fudge.
  • Apple Pie Spice: Sprinkle some apple pie spice into the green layer for extra fall flavor.
  • Sea Salt Topping: Sprinkle sea salt on top of the fudge for an extra sweet-and-salty kick.

Recipe Tips

  • Use a rubber spatula for easy and complete mixing of the melted ingredients.
  • Don’t rush the melting process. Stirring every minute ensures even heating and prevents burning.
  • For clean cuts, warm your knife under hot water and wipe dry between slices.
  • Get creative with your swirling technique to create unique patterns in each batch.
  • If the fudge is too soft after 4 hours, let it chill longer. Different refrigerators may require different setting times.

Storing Tips

Store your caramel apple fudge in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. If you want to keep your batch of fudge longer, you can freeze it for up to three months. When serving from the freezer, allow the fudge to thaw slightly at room temperature for the best texture and flavor.

Serving Suggestions

This Caramel Apple Fudge is a standout dessert on its own, but it also pairs wonderfully with other fall treats. Serve it alongside my Pumpkin Chiffon Pie for a diverse dessert spread. For a fun party idea, cut the fudge into small cubes and serve it with my Homemade Apple Cider for a perfect autumn pairing. If you’re putting together a dessert table, consider adding some Cinnamon Twists for a variety of textures and flavors.

Recipe FAQs

Can I use real caramel instead of caramel melts?

It’s not recommended to use real caramel as it doesn’t set properly in this recipe. Stick to caramel-flavored melts or chips for the best results.

Why is parchment paper necessary?

Parchment paper prevents the fudge from sticking to the pan and makes removal much more straightforward. Don’t substitute with non-stick spray, as it can make the fudge difficult to remove cleanly.

Can I adjust the size of the fudge pieces?

Absolutely! Use a smaller pan for thicker pieces or a larger pan for thinner ones. Just remember that thicker fudge will take longer to set.

How long does the fudge need to be set?

The fudge needs at least 4 hours in the refrigerator to set properly. However, allow it to chill longer if it’s still too soft.

Can I make this fudge without the green apple flavor?

Yes, you can omit the green apple flavoring if you prefer. This will give you a pure caramel fudge, which is also delicious!
