These s’more Oreos have the cocoa-and-vanilla flavor of the original sandwich cookie. Swap graham cookies for Oreos, add marshmallows and chocolate, and you can have everything you love about s’mores with the added appeal of Oreos.

Why You’ll Love It

  • Oreo flavor: Both the cocoa wafers and vanilla cream go into every sandwich, which makes them a win for Oreo fans.
  • Three ingredients: The recipe uses only 3 ingredients.
  • Texture contrast: The cookies are crisp, the marshmallow is soft and milk chocolate is melty and oozy.

Oreo S’mores Cookies Ingredients

See the recipe card below for the full list of ingredients and exact measurements.

Bowls of marshmallows, Oreo cookies, and Hersheys chocolate on a white surface.
  • Oreo cookies: Separate the sandwich cookies into wafers. I like to leave the vanilla cream attached so it becomes part of the s’more.
  • Hershey’s milk chocolate: A scored bar divides easily into equal pieces. The 12 sections in a standard 1.55-ounce bar give you 2 pieces for each s’more.
  • Marshmallows: I recommend using full-size marshmallows so they puff to roughly the same width as the cookie wafers.

Substitutions and Variations

  • Dark chocolate: A dark chocolate bar makes the s’mores less sweet and gives them a stronger cocoa taste.
  • Flavored Oreos: I’ve tried the recipe with peanut butter Oreos and liked the result. I haven’t tried mint Oreos in this recipe but if those are your favorites, you might like to try making mint Oreo s’mores.
  • Gluten-free cookies: Use gluten-free Oreos if needed. Check the labels on the chocolate and marshmallows if cross-contact is a concern.
  • Double-cookie sandwiches: Use 2 whole Oreos for each s’more if you want a thicker cookie layer.

How to Make Oreo S’mores Cookies (Step-by-Step Directions)

STEP 1: Prepare a broiler-safe baking sheet and turn on the broiler.

Oreos split with filling on a tray; chocolate and marshmallows are nearby.

STEP 2: Break the chocolate at the scored lines. Twist the Oreo cookies into separate halves.

STEP 3: Arrange 6 cookie halves on the baking sheet. Place 2 chocolate sections and one marshmallow on each half.

Six toasted smores on parchment with a glass cup of marshmallows nearby.

STEP 4: Broil until the marshmallows are puffed and lightly browned.

STEP 5: Press the remaining cookie halves gently onto the marshmallows. Wait briefly before serving.

Kim’s Tips

  • Choose a safe liner: Use foil or an unlined broiler-safe baking sheet. Parchment paper can ignite under direct broiler heat.
  • Watch continuously: Marshmallows can burn seconds after browning begins, especially near the heating element. Don’t take your eyes off them!
  • Press lightly: Too much pressure forces the hot marshmallow and chocolate out of the cookie sandwich.
  • Give them a short rest: A couple of minutes lets the marshmallow firm slightly, reducing the amount that squeezes out. And also helps ensure no one burns their mouth!

How to Store

  • Room temperature: Keep leftover Oreo s’mores in an airtight container at cool room temperature for up to 2 days. The cookies will soften during storage.
  • Freezing: I don’t recommend freezing these because thawed marshmallow gets sticky and the cookies lose their crisp texture.

Serving Suggestions

Serve these yummy Oreo s’mores warm with cold milk, hot coffee or vanilla ice cream. For a summer party, add Frozen Watermelon Agua Fresca, a Rose Lemonade Cocktail or Strawberry Tea. In cooler weather, use DIY Hot Chocolate Spoons to make mugs of cocoa. Apple Caramel Fudge is a fun dessert pairing for a fruity contrast.

Oreos S’mores FAQs

Do I need to remove the Oreo cream?

I like to leave the cream attached to one cookie half. Heat from the marshmallow and chocolate softens it slightly and the vanilla flavor is good in the s’mores.

Why didn’t the chocolate melt completely?

The broiler directs most of its heat toward the marshmallow. The hot marshmallow softens the chocolate when the sandwich is pressed together.

Why are the marshmallows sliding off the cookies?

The marshmallows may be off-center or the chocolate pieces may be stacked unevenly. Put the flat end of each marshmallow directly on the chocolate and keep the baking sheet level.

Why do the Oreo cookies break when separated?

The cream can hold each cookie half together firmly. I rotate the two sides slowly in opposite directions because pulling them straight apart is likely to result in breakage.

These Oreo s’mores cookies have crisp cocoa wafers and a stretchy marshmallow filling. Softened milk chocolate mixes with the original Oreo cream.

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 6 Oreo cookies plus 6 more if you want double-cookie sandwiches
  • 1 bar Hershey’s Chocolate 1.55-ounce
  • 6 large marshmallows

Instructions

  • Line a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper and preheat the oven broiler to low.
  • Break the chocolate bar into rectangles along the perforations.
  • Twist the Oreo cookies apart and arrange 6 of the cookie halves on the baking sheet.
  • Add 2 rectangles of chocolate on top of each cookie half and then add a marshmallow on top.
  • Broil for 1 to 3 minutes, watching all the time, until the marshmallows are lightly golden and puffy.
  • Remove from the oven and immediately add another Oreo cookie half on top of each one, pressing down gently to form a sandwich.
  • Let the Oreo s’mores cool for a couple of minutes before serving so the marshmallow can set slightly and won’t ooze out so much when eaten.

Notes

  • Divide the chocolate evenly: Equal pieces melt at the same rate.
  • Leave some space: Keep the sandwiches apart so the puffed marshmallows don’t touch, otherwise your s’mores will stick together.
  • Use fresh marshmallows: Older marshmallows can be dry and may not puff or stretch as well.

Final Thoughts

Oreo s’mores keep the toasted marshmallow and warm chocolate of the familiar campfire dessert. Replacing graham crackers with cocoa wafers and vanilla cream changes both the flavor and texture: the cookie snaps when you bite into it, as warm chocolate melts into the vanilla cream and the marshmallow gets all warm and stretchy.
