Ingredients For Tye Dye Cookies

Ingredients for Mickey themed Tye Dye Cookies sitting on a white countertop.
  • Flour: The foundation for our cookies, it gives them structure and body. Ensure to use all-purpose flour for the best results.
  • Baking powder: This is our leavening agent, which helps the cookies rise and become light and fluffy.
  • Kosher salt: A pinch of this enhances the sweetness and balances the overall flavor of the cookies.
  • White sugar: This adds sweetness to the cookies and helps in creating a beautiful golden-brown color.
  • Unsalted sweet cream butter: Gives the cookies a rich, buttery flavor while also aiding in the texture. Remember to use it at room temperature.
  • Large eggs: They act as the binding agent, holding all the ingredients together.
  • Pure vanilla extract: Just a splash of this imparts a warm, aromatic flavor to the cookies.
  • Red and black food coloring: These are what give our cookies their fun, tie-dye look. Feel free to experiment with other colors too!
  • Ghirardelli white chocolate melting wafers: These will give our cookies a decadently smooth and creamy white chocolate coating.
  • Valentine’s Day sprinkles: The perfect festive touch to finish off our cookies. Plus, they add a lovely crunchy texture.

Substitutions and Variations

  • Instead of Red and Black coloring, you could use red and pink to make these even more festive for Valentine’s Day.
  • You can make these Tie Dye Sugar Cookies in any shape you like if you don’t have a Mouse cookie cutter.
  • Not a fan of sprinkles? Leave them off altogether.

Expert Tips

  • Make sure that your butter is at room temperature before you start making these Tie Dye Sugar Cookies.
  • Do not overmix your cookie dough once you add the flour. Over-mixing can cause your Tie Dye Cookies to be tough.
  • If you don’t have a piping bag, spoon the melted white chocolate into a ziplock bag and seal it. Snip off one corner of the bag for piping.
  • I like to use cookie cutters with silicone edging to make cutting out shapes easier.

Storing Tips

Tye Dye Sugar Cookies can be stored in an air-tight container for up to 5 days.

You can also freeze the cookies, either baked or unbaked, for up to three months. Just add some parchment paper between each cookie to stop them from freezing together. Defrost thoroughly, then add the chocolate and sprinkles to serve.

What To Serve With Tye Dye Cookies

Tye Dye Cookies are a versatile treat that pairs well with a variety of beverages and desserts. For a classic combination, serve them with a glass of cold milk – the creaminess of the milk perfectly complements the sweet, buttery cookies. If you’re serving these at a party, consider pairing them with a fruity punch or a decadent hot chocolate for a comforting treat.

Alternatively, they also pair wonderfully with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a side of fresh fruit for a lighter option. Whether for a casual snack or a festive dessert, there are numerous delicious ways to enjoy your Tye Dye Cookies.

Recipe FAQs

Can I use a different type of sugar for this recipe?

Yes, you could substitute white sugar with light brown sugar if you prefer. Brown sugar will give the cookies a slightly chewier texture and a subtle molasses flavor.

What can I use as a substitute for eggs in this recipe?

If you have an egg allergy or are vegan, you can substitute each egg with either 1/4 cup of unsweetened apple sauce or a flax egg (1 tablespoon of ground flaxseed + 2.5 tablespoons of water, let it sit for 5 minutes before using).

Can I use pre-made cookie dough?

While homemade dough is recommended for the best taste and texture, you can use pre-made sugar cookie dough as a time-saving measure. Simply follow the instructions for adding the food coloring and shaping.

Do the cookies need to be refrigerated after baking?

No, the cookies don’t need to be refrigerated after baking. However, they should be stored in an airtight container to keep them fresh.

Can I use other shapes for the cookies?

Absolutely! Feel free to use any cookie-cutter shape you have on hand. This recipe is also perfect for Christmas cookies. Just keep in mind that the baking time may vary slightly depending on the size and thickness of your cookies.
